Easy characters to relate with. Mariah is easy going mom for the most part.Her son Jake is a hoot! Love him.He is the more open minded and has the willingness to trust.I love how he picks at his mother to get points across to her. (Clever little dude)When an old flame from the past come waltzing into Mariah's little comfortable life,things begin to change and quickly.
Wyatt Royce is taken back to the past when he see's Mariah.He can't help but the love for her that had formed so many years ago. Wyatt has a past also.A past of pain and loss that changed his life forever.
This is wonderful story on love,loss,rebuilding lives and friendships,learning to trust again and so much more.I truly loved this little story!It warms the heart and soul.
Even though our heroine hasn't been in relationship since her divorce 15 yrs prior to story and I liked her, I didn't believe romance. Too fast? Not certain. I was almost bored. I was hoping kid was Heroes so something exciting would happen besides rehashing her distrust of men and why the page fillers need to keep reminding me. The romance... WHere was it? Insipid romance, very likeable hero, likeable heroine. Plot strong on abusive past, weak on present. It wasn't horrible by any means, but neither was it something we haven't read before. You've seen this a zillion times if you are a romance novel fan. The guilt writing an ambiviliant review is due to the subject matter. Not buying the guilt. The director of this Rescue Center needed therepy. She knew it all but didn't practice principles she mouthed. I liked storyline, wish it had gone somewhere...
I would have believed if heroine had been too BUSY for love...because so many women do need help. Strong, scarred, healed and BUSY! That great hero would have had a time of it convincing her...He was THE RIGHT ONE.
Jillian Hart's wonderful book, No One But You brings the topic of domestic violence into her love story between Mariah and Wyatt with great sensitivity. (Fair Warning If you are anything like me, don't read this book without having tissues handy!) This story was especially poignant for me because I used to counsel women victims of abuse after I got out of my own abusive marriage.
Mariah and Wyatt were high school sweethearts but that was eighteen years ago when they meet at a fundraising drive for the shelter where Mariah is the executive director. It turns out that Wyatt is the owner of the corporation that donated the land for the shelter's expansion. Although Mariah has all her defenses up, Wyatt strikes up a friendship with her teenage son, Jake. Over time, Wyatt works through his own tragic past and Mariah learns that Wyatt is a man she can trust.
This story was very well written with only a few editing mistakes that didn't take away from the flow of the story. All the characters had well-rounded personalities and the imagery was vivid and realistic. The story did have more message in it than plot but it was done so well that it didn't matter.I definitely recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind learning about an important issue while reading a lovely love story.
This book is wonderful! I loved every word of it. The under lying story behind it is not so good but the characters within the story line know how to handle tough situations and are always willing to help out a friend in need. Mary Byberg knows how to tell a story but at the same time keep her readers interested in the storyline. There was romance, mystery, adventure as well as a happy ending all around.
Mariah Duncan was a victim of abuse from her husband years and she currently runs a women’s shelter for other abuse victims. She is in the process of getting a bigger land donation to make an even bigger shelter for the woman of Mary’s Place. When she runs into her old high school boyfriend she realizes that even after so long the feelings that she has for him haven’t gone away. She has a son who is a big basketball player and he is becoming fast friends with Wyatt, however Mariah isn’t so sure is a good idea but what mother can say no to her child? When Mariah recognizes the pattern of abuse going on in her neighbor’s house she wants to do everything that she can to help mother and daughter to get out of the abuse anyway that she can.
Wyatt Royce never thought that he would ever see Mariah again. He has been divorced before and has had his share of heart breaks but the love that he has/had for Mariah hasn’t gone away. He wants to take things slow with her and make her see that he won’t break her heart once again. He finds that he can relate to Jake, Mariah’s son because he used to play basketball in high shoal as well. Wyatt has the reputation of trying to run Mariah’s life like he used to do before but she isn’t having any of it.
The attraction between Mariah and Wyatt is not something that you can ignore and after a while it’s not something that you would want to ignore. The storyline flows beautifully, the characters are some believable, there is everything that you need in a book to keep your interest that you won’t want to put this book down.
