The Protectors series crosses over with some of my other series, so for the most enjoyment, they should be read in order, but it is not required. I honestly can't even begin to tell you how moved by this story I was. I know it may seem like I may say this a lot, but this book, everything about it was wonderful. And sad. And heartbreaking. And soul crushing. Painful. God this book made me hurt. It made me cry.Ronan, god...this man. So broken from his past that his mind is almost...ALMOST one track on his mission. Can anyone break through to this man, make him see? Can he ever know that he CAN be loved and love someone again? Is he so broken that he's unable to? But god...his NEED for Seth....
Seth....bless this boy's little heart. All the pain and heartache he has endured have led him to live an almost reclusive/secluded like lifestyle. But god, his love for Ronan...
They are both so broken, but they can't stay away from each other even if they think they should or want to, they...just....can't
I absolutely love Sloane Kennedy. The story, the writing, the way I was drawn into this book...this series. it's rare for this to happen. Not every author can make me cry, and if you do, then you have written a very moving story.
I highly recommend this series, this book. I cannot wait to carve out some time to be able to devour her other books as well.

This was book 2 in "The Protectors" series. Trauma surgeon Ronan Grisham lost everything the day the man he loved was stolen from him in a brutal attack. For eight year Ronan as been killing people who commit some of the worse crimes you can think of. Seth Nichols is the younger brother of his dead lover he has been through a lot at. His parents were killed in a home invasion when he was 14 that left him for dead and then his brother was killed in what he thought was friendly fire in the army when he was 16 his grandmother died. Ronan has been watching Seth he knows that the younger man as been in love with him but when he kissed him he knew he had to let him go because his feelings for him. Seth has not had an easy life although he is rich he has anxiety and panic attacks and at one point he didn't leave his house for three years. When Ronan shows up he finds that Seth has been mugged he knows that Seth is in trouble someone is trying to kill him. He also finds out that Seth's therapist wants him and when the guys tries to force himself on Seth Ronan wants to kill him. This was a really good read with lots of emotions on both their parts. Ronan is not the same man that he was he has some secrets that he is holding out on Seth. I knew that Ronan's book was going to be a good one I listen and read this book all day. The sex scenes between these two were hot Seth was a virgin. Seth is running his father's company. I really liked both of these character's a lot. Ronan never realized that they needed each other or the fact that Seth had been suffering. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading and listening to the next book in this series.
So, if you read The Protectors, you know Ronan is in charge of the vigilante group that Mace was a part of. In this book, we meet Seth, the younger brother of Ronan's deceased boyfriend. There is a truckload of pain and trauma in both men's pasts. Ronan had kept an eye on Seth from a distance over the years and now he goes to see Seth after he was mugged. Seth was only 16 the last time he saw Ronan and Ronan walked away after Seth attempted to kiss him. There is resentment and confusion on Seth's part but Ronan begins a pattern of being intimate with Seth, then walking away once more. Ronan fears what Seth will think of his current occupation and also tries to shelter Seth, and guard himself, from knowledge of events in the past.
It became heartbreaking every time Seth thought Ronan wanted to get close to him, then he turned and walked away once more. It became rather irritating and repetitive through the majority of the story. It was understandable, to a point, but still made Ronan seem oblivious and cruel towards Seth. It made it worth reading though, to see how they get through the difficulties together. In addition, someone is after Seth and eventually we get to see Mace, Cole and Jonas again. We also meet Hawke, another member of the team. These men help both Ronan and Seth along the way.
It was pretty easy to guess who the bad guy was, and guess his involvement in prior events. So it was pretty predictable and Sloane Kennedy isn't exactly formulaic, her stories kind of have a pattern. I love the characters though, as the main protagonists are alphas but always flawed by troubled pasts, and without arrogant or entitled attitudes, plus always protective and loyal. It's kind of OTT hurt/comfort, always hot and sexy. Oh yes, we have up against the door, necktie, and coat hook hanging sex! Yowza! Hawkes story is next, and he'd been married to a woman, so I think we'll have an "I didn't know I was bisexual" story, with a kid!
