This is my 2nd purchase of this book. I've had mine since the 80's it's helped me so much and helped me to help others over the years. I've loaned my copy out so many times and have used what I've learned to work on myself and many friends and family experiencing trouble.I recently sent one to a relative with sciatica. This book will teach you how to work through that painful condition and many others.
I coinsidently hired someone to do bodywork on me years ago and it turned out to be the woman who's pictured in the book! Pretty funny😋

I have to agree with the other reviewer who stated that the information in this book was good but not organized very well. It makes a good companion to other Trigger Point books as it gives you some of the history behind the therapy and a lot of anecdotal bits about how the treatments have worked for various symptoms. I am particularly fond of Clair Davies' book, The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook... it is organized by area of pain and is very well put together for regular people. For massage therapists, the Davies book is a good reference that is easier to tote around than the Travell and Simons books.
While attending a 1988 Travell/Simons 3-Day-in-swim-suit symposium, I was the only dentist in the class. My copies of Pain Erasure and The Trigger Point Manual attracted the attention of Judy Vachon,the person who set up the school to train certified Bonnie Prudden Myotherapists. She asked permission to autograph Bonnie's book. My well-worn copy is used at all professional presentations, to help friends; and I have purchased two of the NEW edition and donated to our local library. Three self-help books that 1 recommended are 1) Pain Erasure The Bonnie Prudden Way, 2)The Trigger Point Workbook by Claire Davies, and 3) Taking Control of TMJ Your Total Wellness Program for Recovering from Temporomandibular Joint Pain, Whiplash, Fibromyalgia and Related Disorders, by Robert O. Uppgard, D.D.S.

Highly useful book. Easy to glean pertinent info without in-depth reading of every single word. Excellent reference. Employ techniques immediately for fast relief.
My father had this book on our Den book shelf growing up in the 1960. It was useful then and still is. I've given 6 away as gifts.the diagrams in the back of the book is wonderful. It give a Roman number which you match to a profession e.g. dancer, office workr etc. Which you match on the chat that gives you possible Trigger point locations . It hose into sports injuries. This book was Way ahead of its time. Still is.
Compared to the 1980s edition, this new edition cuts off a significant amount of the pictures. The pictures are shown on the left side and right side of the pages. The old edition did cut off the pictures too but you can see better how they perform the maneuvers. You can hardly see what they are doing in the pics. Suggest you look for an older 1980s edition as I have.
Copyright 1980. Contains Bonnie Prudden instructions on my-therapy / pain erasure. My wife keeps giving them away to help others. She needed another for her book shelf. This has really blessed our lives!!
I have been suffering from osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and overall stifness for years now. Have gone for full body massages, chiropractor etc. This book gave me a great tool of self-help. Now, having all kinds of massage hand-held devices, I can actually do for myself what I had to pay for ( not to discount an excellent massage therapists out there, but simply to make a statement that you can also do for yourself ehat nobody else can, and even more effectively, in-between expensive massage sessions ).
The book is written with great passion and clarity and has pictures and tables which can be used by a person with any level of education, with no prior medical knowledge. Trigger points indeed cause all the problems in the body, pains and aches, and if left unattended can be a source of great destruction. First time I actually tried to find these trigger points and massaged the tension out of my body, I slept for 8 hours tsraight ( for the first time in years. ) Try this book, you will see for yourself!! Just be consistent and keep doing it, and you will see the difference it makes in the way you feel on daily basis.
