I was pulled into this story from the very beginning with a premise that took us out of usual local in England and to the deserts of the Middle East. I had already fallen partially in love with Sebastian Montborne in the first book in this series, but it was locked in with his appearance here. I have never been a big fan of the historical romance but I find myself loving these for some reason, though it is probably because they make me feel like a part of the action. I get a chance to know the people and come to care about them and the world they inhabit. The characters both new and old are very well written and make you feel that you would like to know them. The Crusades have been raging and Sebastian of Montborne has ridden and fought with King Richard while his brother remains at Montborne looking over the estate. In the desert port of Ascalon near Jerusalem King Richard has set up his encampment as they rally for their march on Jerusalem to take the city for their church. In the hills surrounding them is a guild of assassins who have sworn to kill all the infidels to their lands, but they really would like to kill Richard, feeling this will make the others less likely to stay in their country. To this end they are plotting to get an assassin within striking distance of him.
Zahirah has been taught to hate the Franks who have come to her land in order to bring their religion and wipe out the faith of those who have for centuries resided in these desert lands. Viewing them as no more than crude animals with no morals she is more than willing to kill in order to keep what they have. But while it is always easy to judge people from afar when she finds herself surrounded by these people and one man in particular it becomes harder to hate them and easier to see where they are more alike than different.
I knew what was coming for some of the story but there were a lot more twists and surprises than I was ready for. I really liked Zahirah because even though she was a bit of a villian, she was able to grow and see what was right and important. I had hoped that I would also get to see something of what had happened with Griffin and Isabel since they are the reason that I have found myself so wrapped up in this series. I laughed a bit, cried a bit, and was mad at all at one point or another but was very happy that things worked out the way I wanted in the end.
If you want a romance that is star crossed and seems unlikely then this is the story for you. I recommend to anyone who loves some historical accuracy with their intense romance. Hot enough to make you blush but tame enough for a beginner. Enjoy!

Black Lion Bride Tina St John 9780804119634 Books Reviews
After reading the reviews I was expecting something else, something 'more'... I really can't put into words what I didn't like about this book but I didn't enjoy it, I got bored quite a lot while reading it and I couldn't see the love story between the characters progress, just their lust for each other, which could have been fine, but not even the supposedly hot scenes worked well in my opinion.
Still I'm giving it a 3 stars rating because it was well written and I can understand that some readers could find this story of their liking, it just didn't work out for me.
This can't be the same author that wrote "the White Lion story" Omg..... I know some romance is base on historic events. But this was really a turn off...I really didn't care for the heroine's religious background. And I thought the storyline was rather boring. I loved the hero's character and I think the author could have used the hero to make an awesome story. This just didn't cut for me. I think the only reason it got such good ratings, is because you got to love the hero. But the story completely sucks!
As I read Black Lion's Bride, I thought of some lyrics from a South Pacific song. They say, "We have to be taught to hate and fear. It has to be drummed in our dear little ear. We have to be carefully taught."
Zahirah was taught to hate the Crusaders. She trained long and hard to be an elite assassin, despite being a woman. Her sworn vow to her father, her clan and Allah is to kill King Richard the Lionhearted. A plot to get into the palace where the king is to take up residence, brings Zahirah into contact with the very handsome and hunky Sebastian.
Despite all the negative things she has been taught to expect of the infidels, she finds Sebastian to be the opposite. In fact, the two are drawn together not only in passion but also in respect, and eventually love. SPOILERS AHEAD!
This clash of cultures, which I found interesting, was sadly diluted by the author. For some reason, she contrived a scenario whereby Zahirah was not an Arab after all. Why? Sebastian cared for her deeply before he found out about her "whiteness". This irritated me.
I did enjoy the story overall. It did hold my attention and move along at a good pace. The characters were likeable as well as strong. The editing was not perfect but very good. There were a few steamy scenes, but not too many. I recommend the book to romance lovers who also like a bit of intrigue.
I will be discussing spoilers in this review, as it is difficult to talk about what disturbed me so much about this book without doing that.
I really enjoyedWhite Lion's Lady (Warrior Trilogy (historical romance) Book 1). It was sweet, exciting, and -- I thought -- true to the historical period while still maintaining a romantic feel. Buying this second book in the trilogy, I thought, would be a no-brainer, especially since the hero is the brother of the hero from the first book.
However, they were totally different and I really, really didn't like this book at all.
It's hard to think of the ending as anything but a "Don't worry everyone, she's really white" play, especially after the violence (and, in some cases, smelliness) of Muslims is brought up frequently throughout the book. Kind of lost in the shuffle is the fact that, well, it's the Crusades and the knights weren't hanging out to do a fun cultural exchange. The only Islamic character who is shown in a positive light is Abdul, the faithful servant who has turned his back on his people in order to carry water for the great Sebastian.
There were also some seriously tone deaf historical mishaps, something that surprised me given how deftly I felt Adrian handled cultural realities in the previous book. The idea of a female assassin, the idea that the "King of the Assassins" thought she would be leverage serious enough to cause Sebastian to kill his king, these things left me rolling my eyes.
